Adoption Process
All adoptions are first come, first serve.
We do not hold animals or accept deposits on animals.
The exception to this is if you are travelling OVER 100 miles to adopt a pet. An appointment will be scheduled, and a non-refundable deposit of $25 may be required. If you do not show for your appointment, or decide not to adopt, the fee will be applied as a donation to the shelter. If you do adopt, the fee will be taken off of your total adoption fee.
You can view all our available pets on Petfinder and AdoptaPet, and most are also posted on our Facebook page. However, the best way to see them is to visit the shelter!
Our Adoption Fee is $50
We have partnered with PetSense to showcase our adoptable cats! Since our partnership began in 2021, our cat adoptions have increased by over 40%.
Be sure to stop by PetSense in Roxboro, NC (739 N. Madison Blvd) or our newest partner location in Mebane, NC (1048 Mebane Oaks Rd) to visit with some of our amazing cats!
*Note: All Roxboro adoptions must be completed at Person County Animal Services during the shelter's regular business hours. Mebane adoptions must be completed at the Mebane PetSense during the shelter's regular business hours. Payment will be collected by credit card only via phone.
Are You Ready to Adopt?
Research dog and cat breeds to find the one that fits your lifestyle.
Be sure to consider physical activity, age of animal (young vs old), active vs calm.
Be sure you can financially afford to feed and provide necessary veterinary visits as needed to maintain your pet's health. This includes emergency visits in the event of unexpected illness or injury. (Pet Insurance is highly recommended to offset the costs of unexpected veterinary expenses)
Be sure you are able and willing to make a long-term commitment for the next 10-20 years.
If you currently have other pets, make sure the new pet will be a good fit. PCAS welcomes potential adopters to bring their vaccinated pets to the shelter for supervised meet & greets. Please contact us for more information.
Be sure no one in your family has pet related allergies. (Volunteering at the shelter can help teach children how to properly care for an animal, as well as help determine if any allergies are present)
Make sure you are aware of City Ordinances, County Ordinances and State Laws regarding animals.
