Person Industries Employment Services program includes Supported Employment and Work Adjustment Services:

Supported Employment

Supported Employment is a vocational service for clients referred through Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities (EIPD) with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) who want to work independently within their community.

Within the Supported Employment program, participants are assigned a Community Employment Specialist, who helps participants:

  • Determine job interests and abilities
  • Fill out applications
  • Develop interviewing skills
  • Provide individualized on-the-job training

During on-the-job training, the Community Employment Specialist works with the participant to master the job duties and helps them foster coworker relationships and support systems within the work environment. The Community Employment Specialist gradually reduces support as the participant becomes independent, and are able to perform the job accurately without assistance.

Supported Employment maintenance services are available to provide support for the employee as well as the employer to sustain a successful working relationship long term.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Documented I/DD diagnosis
  • At least 18 years old
  • Referred to Person Industries through Vocational Rehabilitation for services
  • Desire to work independently in the community
  • Resident of Person County, although residents of other counties may be served when space allows
  • Legal resident of US
  • Eligible for SE Maintenance services through Vaya Health or Alliance Health

Work Adjustment Services

Community Based Work Adjustment offers people with disabilities training at local businesses to experience real world work environments to develop the work skills, habits, and stamina to be successful in a competitive workforce.

Participants engage in paid work while learning to follow a regular schedule, completing job assignments, working with supervisors and coworkers, all the support of a Community Employment Specialist.

This program is particularly useful for those returning to the workforce after an extended absence. Participants also benefit from individualized training focusing on developing soft skills, good workplace behaviors as well as job seeking skills such as resume writing, cover letters, interview skills, and completing job applications.

If additional support is needed to secure community employment, and EIPD counselor may refer for Work Adjustment Job Coaching services.

Work Adjustment Job Coaching services aid with job development, on site support from a Community Employment Specialist to learn the job duties, assist with teaching appropriate workplace interactions and strategies for the employee to successfully meet employer expectations.
